Wings - K.B. Hallen, August 1st 1972, 8 pm.

Concert Arranger: SBA

This concert was the first in the second part of the tour. The McCartney family arrived from Scotland the night before the concert on a rented private plane, after a week's break from concerts. They quickly left the airport without speaking to anyone and spent the night at the Hvide Hus Hotel in Køge. The other members of the band had already stayed in Denmark for a few days, according to the press. On the day where the concert was to take place, the McCartney family drove to the K.B. Hallen in a Mercedes with tinted windows, followed by several cars with press personnel. The Wings bandbus had been hidden away, but was now, up to the concert, parked on the left side of the K.B. Hallen.

Encore

20. Hi Hi Hi

It was the first time on the tour that the encore Long Tall Sally was replaced with a reprise of Hi Hi Hi.

After the concert, a small press conference was held in the K.B. Hallen. Paul was clearly annoyed about constantly being asked questions about The Beatles, but he answered politely. Linda was also irritated, asking if the press only had stupid questions, and Paul had to tell her to behave herself.

EMI subsequently hosted a reception at the restaurant Søpavillionen in Copenhagen, where Paul appeared sullen and aloof. The entire band left the reception after a short while. It has not been possible to verify whether the band stayed overnight in Denmark after the reception, or if they drove to Västernå Slott in Sweden. Västernå Slott has no information about the time of arrival, only a picture, dated August the 2nd. However, it is most likely that they stayed overnight in Denmark, at the Hvide Hus Hotel in Køge.

I was there quotes

- Michael Theet

It was a last minute decision, however just five days before the concert I went with a friend to the box office (City Billet Bureau) in Copenhagen to see if tickets were still available. "Where do you want your seats, we still have tickets in the front row". And of course we took the tickets: Front row, middle seats. They were expensive, 65 Danish kroner each, but after all, there was a beatle in town. When we arrived we first took the opportunity to check out the Wings bus, which was parked at K.B. Hallen. In the concert hall, ther was a curtain in front of the stage, and I remember that we could spot Paul's sandals under the curtain while they were getting ready. It was completely unexpected that they opened the concert with a song like "Bip Bop", but it was performed with good energy, just like the rest of the show. Several people in the audience smiled indulgently when Linda performed "I Am Your Singer", but it was well received. The band played insanely loud, and I think that only The Who surpassed them when I saw them in the K.B. Hallen later the same month. After the concert we stood outside the K.B. Hallen, not really knowing whether to stand beside the bus, or on the opposite side, where some black cars were parked. Unfortunately I chose the opposite side, thinking that Paul would bamboozle us. One of my friends chose the side where the bus was parked, and he got Paul's autograph on the back of his ticket. Damn !
